With the help of some amazing schools, organisations, and of course our fantastic customers, we managed to assemble a display of 3,051 origami dinosaurs in our Wedge Gallery for our Makers Month Guinness World Record attempt. 

The record attempt ran throughout the month of June, and we asked customers to help us make more than 2,098 origami dinosaurs to beat the current Guinness World record holder. The chosen origami dinosaur was the Apatosaurus, designed by Michael G. LaFosse for Tuttle Publishing.

The final dinosaurs were folded on the last day of the month, June 30th, and on July 2nd we invited Nic Wright, Willoughby City Councillor, and Elizabeth Spratt, CPA, to officially witness the count.

It took us over an hour to count all them all, but were overjoyed (and relieved?) to count 3,051 origami dinosaurs!

The evidence will be sent to Guinness World Records for verification, and hopefully soon we can be the proud holders of the record for the world’s largest display of origami dinosaurs!!

We quite literally could not have done this without the support of our partners Tuttle Publishing and NewSouth Books, the helping hands of various schools and organisations, and all the customers who visited our gallery and folded one or ten or twenty origami apatosauruses. As promised, we, along with Tuttle Publishing and NewSouth Books, will donate $1,000 to our chosen charity, the Indigenous Literacy Foundation!

Ever attempt to break a Guinness World Record? We’re going to be trying our darnedest…

Join us in our attempt to break the Guinness Record for the world’s largest display of origami dinosaurs! The record attempt will be running in our gallery space from 1st – 30th of June. Be sure to pop in during the month to fold a dino or two, leave your name on our contributor list, and go down in history as being part of a record-breaking attempt! Plus, if we succeed, we and our partners Tuttle Publishing and New South Books will be donating $1000 to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation!

It wouldn’t be Makers Month without a bunch of awesome workshops to get you creatives crafting and making!

Flowersmith Jennifer Tran is BACK this year with more of her ever-popular paper flower workshops, and she’ll be running two Paper Rose workshops on Sunday 16th June, at 11.30am and 3.00pm. Doodle artist and author of Cute Kawaii Doodles and The Art of Doodle Words, Sarah Alberto will be teaching us how to create the cutest kawaii doodles at her Kawaii Doodle Workshop on Sunday 23rd June. You’ll also see Sarah’s doodle creations around our store throughout the month… her kawaii dinosaurs and other doodles are key features of our Makers Month! And for all those crafty kids, we have a Kawaii Koala Speed-Building competition happening on Saturday 29th June!
