Art Book Review Winner

During Art Month in September we asked you to submit an art book review for your chance to win over $2000 worth of sensational art & design books.

We loved reading all your reviews, of the titles that have made their mark on your art book journey. From Chloe Sevigny to Egon Schiele to Vivienne Westwood to Robert Mapplethorpe… thank you for sharing them with us! Though we loved them all, we had to award the prize to one woman for her review of the timeless and indispensable classic by E.H. Gombrich, The Story of Art.

Here is Marjorie’s review of The Story of Art by E.H. Gombrich, 1955, The Phaidon Press Ltd., 7th edition, revised:

“My copy of The Story of Art may be a 1955 edition, ink-stained and full of scribbled notes, but it has been my constant and faithful art reference companion since first year high school. Its wide-ranging contents cover painting, drawing, sculpture and architecture from the earliest days of human creativity to the twentieth century.

My collection of art books has grown considerably over the years but my Gombrich never loses its place on the shelf.

New editions continue to be produced, bringing The Story of Art into the twenty-first century, and I have purchased these from time to time for family and friends interested in art, but it is to my tattered copy of Gombrich that I always return.”

The prize books, in their new home, with the Gombrich!
